Want to truly experience the Burren, the vast lunar landscape, the myriad of plants and wildlife, relics of past lives, the magic and the mystery of the rock? Then get off the vehicle at the mountain top and walk.
People come from all over the world to walk in the Burren, but this is no ordinary walk. This takes place on a 1,000 acres of private land, with a 10km track over a private mountain, you walk where only locals have walked before.
We drive to the top of the mountain and then walk on the farm track for approx. 7km around the top of the mountain.
This is a relatively flat surface, walking on the cliff edge at times. We ramble off the track, getting close to the natural beauty of the Burren and spend some time examining the limestone paving and the exotic flora.
Walking inland towards the centre of the mountain we walk across the magnificent limestone paving and examine the relics of mountain life thousands of years ago, such as forts, turf tiles, and magnificent stone walls.
The views of the Clare and Galway coastlines along the Wild Atlantic Way are breadth taking.
We walk as friends, telling you about our life and how we farm this mountain. How our ancestors lived here thousands of years ago and the many secrets of the Burren.
You will learn about the history and heritage of the Burren, the archaeology and the people of the Burren.
When the walk is over we drive down the mountain and you will experience a little Irish hospitality by sharing a cup of tea on the farm.
At the end of the day you will know a little more about the Burren, its people and that secret something that makes this place so special.
